CPOs for home charging stations are unnecessary! What employers need to know...

Many employers have previously installed charging stations at their employees' homes, sometimes linked to an external CPO platform (Charge Point Operator,
a management platform for charging stations). Now that they are switching
to EEVEE Mobility, the question arises: What happens to these existing charging stations? Do they still need to operate through an employer-managed system
or a CPO subscription, or is there a simpler solution?

In this blog, we outline the best options and how to manage charging costs correctly – without unnecessary complexity or extra costs.

A home charging station without a CPO is the best option!
If your employees have a home charging station that is still connected to a CPO (charging station management system), there are two possible scenarios:

1. Disabling the CPO and switching the charging station to Plug & Charge (recommended)This is the most efficient and cost-effective choice for you as an employer.

✅ The employer requests the provider to switch charging stations to Plug & Charge.
✅ No more monthly CPO fees.
✅ Works with all charging stations – No additional hardware or settings required.
✅ Automatic reimbursements – All charging sessions are directly recorded via vehicle data.
✅ Completely free – Only in very rare cases is an on-site intervention necessary.

🚨 Important: When switching to EEVEE Mobility, previous provider charge passes are
no longer needed for home charging. Does your employee's partner still need to use an outdated CPO system? Then their employer must take over this cost and whitelist the EEVEE charge pass. Charging sessions will be automatically recorded and reimbursed based on vehicle data.

2. Keeping the CPO and whitelisting the EEVEE charge pass
In some cases, it is not possible to disconnect the CPO, for example, if the charging station is part of an ongoing lease contract or for another reason.

✅ The CPO remains active, and the employer cannot disable it.
✅ The EEVEE charge pass is whitelisted on the CPO platform to activate the charger.
✅ Employees can charge their company car at home without extra costs via the CPO.

🚨 Important: When switching to EEVEE Mobility, the previous provider’s charge pass should no longer be used for home charging. Otherwise, the charging session will be recorded
twice – once via the charge pass and once via the vehicle.

Myth: A CPO doesn’t make a charging station ‘smart’
Many companies believe a CPO is necessary for smart home charging, but this is
a misconception.A ‘smart charging station’ refers to functionalities such as energy management, session logging, and integration with reimbursement systems – all of
which can be done without an external CPO.
What should you do as an employer?
To switch to a simpler setup for home charging, we recommend contacting your current provider (charge pass provider, charging station provider, or CPO). Ask them if they can switch your charging stations to Plug & Charge. Be mindful of the following potential obstacles:

⚠️ The switch to Plug & Charge can usually be done remotely and without physical intervention. However, some providers still charge a fee for this. Be sure to check with your current provider what steps are required. Either way, switching to EEVEE Mobility results
in cost savings, quickly offsetting any potential fees.

By taking these steps, you ensure that your charging costs become more transparent and that you don’t pay unnecessary monthly fees for a CPO or management platform that is actually redundant.
Why EEVEE and not a CPO?
With EEVEE, you don’t need a CPO platform to accurately record and reimburse charging sessions. This makes it easier and cheaper for both you as an employer and your employees.

✅ Lower costs – No subscription fees for CPO connectivity.
✅ No admin – Charging sessions auto-registered via the car manufacturer.
✅ 100% accurate – Only the kWh charged into the company vehicle are recorded.
✅ Independent of the charging station – Works without additional hardware or settings.
✅ Fast payouts – Direct employee reimbursements every month.

Thanks to the connection with the vehicle, you gain much more insight than just the kWh charged. You also get real-time odometer readings, protection against charging fraud,
and direct integrations with your business administration.
One charging station, multiple users – Hassle-Free!
Why should home charging be limited to just one person? With EEVEE Mobility, everyone under the same roof can use the same charging station – without extra complexity.

Thanks to the vehicle data, we know exactly which car is being charged, ensuring that only the employee’s company car is reimbursed. No Fraud, No Hassle – maximum flexibility, minimal administration.
