Home charging reimbursement: how it works for company cars

How does home charging reimbursement work? Find out how to repay employees’ company car charging costs accurately and automatically, without extra admin.

What is home charging reimbursement?

When an employee charges their electric company car at home, they usually pay for the electricity themselves first. As their employer, you can then reimburse those charging costs. The reimbursement only covers the electricity actually used to charge the car. That’s why you need a reliable record of every charging session.

What should that record include?

  • The vehicle that was charged.
  • The charging location.
  • The number of kilowatt-hours charged.
  • The date and time of the session.
  • The rate used to calculate the reimbursement.
Do employees need a home charger to get reimbursed?

No. Employees can charge at home using a wallbox, another charging solution or, in some cases, even a standard socket. What matters for you as an employer is that the energy use is measured objectively and can be verified. A home charger isn’t the only way to do that. EEVEE Mobility gets charging data directly from the vehicle. So reimbursement doesn’t depend on the type of charger or the hardware at your employee’s home. Different home setups, the same straightforward process.

Which reimbursement rate should you use?

In Belgium, home charging is often reimbursed using the official CREG rate. This rate is updated periodically and varies by region. Using the official rate gives employees a transparent and consistent basis for reimbursement. EEVEE Mobility applies the correct rates automatically, so you don’t have to update the calculations by hand every time they change.

How does home charging reimbursement work with EEVEE Mobility?

  1. Connect the vehicle
The employee connects their electric company car to the EEVEE app. The app can then collect the relevant charging data directly from the vehicle.
  2. Record charging sessions automatically
Each session is categorised by location and type: at home, in public or at work.
  3. Calculate the costs
EEVEE Mobility calculates the costs using the measured energy consumption and the official rate.
  4. Process the reimbursement
You receive the data needed to process the reimbursement. Employees can track when they'll be paid in the paid.
  5. Keep everything traceable
Fleet managers can see energy consumption, costs and reimbursements in one place. That makes exceptions easier to spot and saves you from digging through records manually.

What are the benefits for employers?

Home charging reimbursement doesn’t have to add to your admin. With an automated approach, you can:

  • Skip the monthly checks of employees’ energy bills.
  • Stop calculating reimbursements in Excel.
  • See which charging sessions took place at home, in public or at work.
  • Reduce the risk of duplicate or incorrect reimbursements.
  • Add new vehicles and employees more easily.
  • Keep the process manageable as your fleet grows.
What does it mean for your employees?

Home charging gets a lot simpler for employees, too. They don’t need to work out how much they’ve charged or keep sending documents to HR. They charge their company car at home as usual. The charging data is collected automatically, and their reimbursement is calculated at the agreed rate.

Ready to simplify home charging reimbursement?

Accurate home charging reimbursement starts with reliable charging data. EEVEE Mobility records energy use directly from the car, so your employees don’t all need the same charger. Home charging becomes easier for employees. And easier for you to manage. Want to see how EEVEE Mobility can automate home charging reimbursement for your organisation? Book a free demo.
